One of Long Beach's most popular tourist attractions and haunted locations is the the Queen Mary. This ship and hotel is believed to have numerous ghosts.

Making its maiden voyage in 1936, the Queen Mary completed many successful voyages before arriving in Long Beach, California in 1967. Today, this elegant ship is known for its nostalgic decor, top notch restaurants, a variety of tours, and of course, its ghosts.

Haunted Queen Mary

The Queen Mary has several spirits which are said to reside on the ship. In fact, the ship is so haunted that it is claimed to contain a vortex, which some believe serves as a sort of a doorway to the spirit world. Ghostly encounters have been reported in different areas with the engine room being one of the most spirited sections of this historical ship.

One of the most common spirits experienced on the Queen Mary is that of a little girl who has both been seen and heard giggling in the pool area. Another known spirit is that of a an 18 year old firefighter who worked in the engine room. His life ended tragically one day at the end of his shift when he was crushed by a water tight door which just happened to be door #13.

The Queen Mary Hotel

Interested in staying the night? Guests can stay on-board in one of the original staterooms. There are three decks of rooms and it's alleged that each level has three to four haunted rooms.

Although there are no guarantees, guests can specifically request to stay in one of the haunted rooms. Many guests of the hotel report paranormal encounters and the hotel keeps a list of reported ghostly activities.

Queen Mary Tours

There are several paranormal type tours that the Queen Mary offers. One of them is the Ghosts and Legends tour which gives visitors a taste of the ship's haunts including special effects and dramatization. For those who prefer a more serious approach, the Paranormal Ship Walk, which is offered on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m., takes guests on a ghost hunt of the ship.

Visitors should ensure that they bring a digital camera for this tour. Many people who take the tour report capturing images of spirits on their cameras. This is quite an intense tour and children twelve and under are not allowed. Additional tours include the Paranormal Investigation Tour, Dining with the Spirits, Haunted Encounters Tour, and Paranormal Spirit Walk.

The Queen Mary is rich not only in history, but supposedly, rich in spirits as well. This Long Beach attraction is believed to be home to many ghosts. If traveling to the southern California area and looking for further haunted locations, the Haunted Whaley House Tour in San Diego is recommended, as the home is included on many "most haunted" lists.
