Originally from Siberia, the Samoyed has been around since ancient times and is known for its thick and beautiful fur. Although most people associate a Samoyed with being white, the breed can also be biscuit or cream in color. As white is a common color, many pet owners like to choose a name that either symbolizes the color white or a name indicative of the cold.
Samoyed Names
Take your time when picking out a name for your new puppy or dog. In most cases, the name will last for the Samoyed's lifetime. An additional thing to consider is the canine's personality as this breed of dog has a reputation of being smart, friendly and very good-natured. Name considerations include:
- Angel
- Blanca
- Blanco
- Blizzard
- Casper
- Frosty
- Snowball
- Snowflake
- Snowy
- Siberia
A Samoyed can make a great family dog. Be sure that all members of the family get to chime in their ideas when choosing a name. Watch for a reaction from your new addition when different names are being tested. Does your new puppy or dog seem to favor one? If so, this may be a good indication that you have found the right name. Some names to test include:
- Alaska
- Flurry
- Moony
- Mushy
- Powder
- Stormy
- Yukon
If you are planning to show the dog, be sure to check with the American Kennel Club, also known as the AKC, first to find out their current rules for names. If you don't follow the rules, you won't be able to register your dog and therefore, won't be able to show it. Some additional names for consideration are:
- Arctic
- Cotton Ball
- Ice
- Icy
- Pearl
- Sam
- Sammy
- Snow White
- Sugar
- White Cloud
- Whitey
Cream Colored Dog Names
As mentioned above, not all Samoyeds fall into the category of having white fur. Some are more cream-colored. If interested in naming your new precious one a name reflecting cream coloring, some names to think about are:
- Biscuit
- Buttercup
- Butterscotch
- Cream Puff
- Creamster
- Creamy
- Vanilla
Once a name is chosen, give your new puppy or dog some time to get used to it. Be sure to offer lots of praise each time the name is responded to. Although your new Samoyed doesn't have to have a name that symbolizes its color or origins, it's something that some pet owners enjoy. The most important thing is to choose a name which you feel is the right one for your new puppy or dog.
