Mothers rely on it when it comes to taking care of their babies. Cops count on it when out on a call. Psychics use it when giving readings. What exactly is intuition?
What is Intuition?
Intuition is the ability to sense or know something without a clear knowledge as to where the information came from. According to famed psychiatrist Carl, G. Jung, intuition is "a perception of realities which are not known to the consciousness, and which goes via the unconsciousness."
Dr. Louisa Rhine, previously with the Rhine Institute, identified intuition as one of four forms in which ESP takes place and believes that 30% of ESP comes from intuition. More prevalent in children, many adults lose or ignore their intuitive abilities.
Mother's and Women's Intuition
No one thinks twice about a mother's innate ability to sense that her child is hurt, in need of something, or doing something the child shouldn't be doing. This mother's sense is generally considered to be a natural part of motherhood.
Take this same ability and change the label from intuition to psychic ability and many people will turn away from it, claiming it doesn't exist. In fact in recent years, many people with abilities who used to refer to themselves as psychics, now refer to themselves as intuitives.
Hunches and Gut Feelings
Another way to refer to the ability to just know something is a hunch. Spectators at race tracks call upon this ability quite often when betting on a race. Police officers rely on their gut feelings when going out on a call for service.
ESP studies have shown that business executives have shown a higher degree of intuitiveness and rely on it more than people who are less successful. Think you might already have this ability? Find out with Psychic Tests – Test to Identify Psychic Ability.
Developing Intuition
Intuition can be developed and most people are already using intuition without realizing it. Firstly, one must pay attention to body signals. One must pay attention to gut feelings. According to Rosemary Ellen Guiley, author of Harper's Encyclopedia of Mystical and Paranormal Experience, "An ideal intuition stimulating room is painted light green, aqua, or chartreuse, lit with natural sunlight, and warmed to 70 degrees or 73 degrees Fahrenheit with a humidity between 60 percent and 70 percent."
Another way to develop intuition is through meditation. Meditation allows a person to break conscious levels and go into the unconscious mind. If interested in trying this, more information can be found in the article A Guide to Meditation Postures and Techniques.
Utilizing intuition is simply a matter of paying attention to gut feelings. With practice, this ability can become stronger. No matter what label it's given, it's a way to access information not acquired via the body's five senses.
