The 1970s brought back partner dancing while introducing line dancing to the pop culture. Here are some classic disco tunes that make for fun party music.

When thinking about the disco era, the music from Saturday Night Fever comes to mind. What better song than Night Fever by the Bee Gees to kick off a line dance and get everyone at the party up and dancing. Of course numerous other Bee Gees hits came from the soundtrack including "You Should be Dancing" and "Stayin' Alive." Another great dance track off the album is "Disco Inferno" performed by The Trammps.

Best Disco Songs

A lot of female singers really made their mark in music history during this time. Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive"became an anthem for getting over a break up. Donna Summer brought listeners hit songs such as "Bad Girl," "Hot Stuff," and "Last Dance." Other great songs from female artists include:

  • "Turn the Beat Around' by Vicki Sue Robinson
  • "Shame" by Evelyn "Champagne" King
  • "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Thelma Houston
  • "I Love the Nightlife" by Alicia Bridges
  • "Love Hangover" by Dianna Ross
  • "Knock on Wood" by Amii Stewart

Top Disco Hits

Some very sexy male voices made women melt such as the seductive sound of Barry White's "You're the First, the Last, My Everything." Not to be forgotten is Luther Vandross' "Ain't No Stopping Us Now." Additional male singers and musicians that produced some great dance music are:

  • "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson
  • "She's a Bad Mama Jama" by Carl Carlton
  • "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart
  • "The Hustle" by Van McCoy

  • "Born to be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez

70s and 80s Dance Music

White suits, gold chains, and body glitter were popular on the dance floors during the disco era and many duets and groups produced great songs for dancing. KC and the Sunshine Band burst onto the scene with what are now classic hits such as "Get Down Tonight," "That's the Way (I Like It,)" and "Boogie Shoes," to name just a few of their many hits.

The Village People made their way to music history with their wild costumes and tunes like "Macho Man" and "YMCA." A Taste of Honey gave people one of the most popular of all disco songs: "Boogie Oogie Oogie." Other great tunes from this time era include:

  • "Le Freak" by Chic
  • "Mandolay" by La Flavour
  • "Boogie Nights" by Heatwave
  • "Funky Town" by Lipps Inc.
  • "Heaven Must be Missing an Angel" by Tavares
  • "Let's Groove" by Earth, Wind, & Fire
  • "Lady's Night" by Kool & the Gang

This is just a sampling of all of the great tunes that came out of the disco era which kept people on the dance floor. Many other talented artists produced top tunes for this musical time era. The above mentioned songs are enough to get a great party started!
