Need sleepover party ideas? Plan a great slumber party with lots of fun games, food and activities along with invitation ideas.

When planning a slumber party, first decide if it will have a theme. Theme ideas can vary depending on the age and interests of the birthday girl. Fans of Justin Bieber could create an entire party around this theme including giving out Justin Bieber Silly Bandtz and playing Justin Bieber Backstage Pass Game.

Slumber Party Ideas

Of course many more theme exist. Have a fun beach party theme including playing beach music and having limbo and hula hoop contests. Whether the weather is nice or not, an indoor camping theme complete with tents and smores can be fun. Additional themes include:

  • Twilight
  • spa party
  • disco
  • movie
  • rock star
  • arts and crafts
  • Jonas Brothers
  • fashion
  • Harry Potter

Once a theme has been chosen, it's time to get the invitations. These can be purchased or created on the computer. A guitar shaped invitation can be used for a rock star or Justin Bieber theme while a movie ticket shaped invitation would work for a movie theme slumber party. Just be sure the invitation matches the theme.

Slumber Party Activities

Of course there has to be lots of fun activities for a sleepover. Get some cans of Silly String for a Silly String war. Music can be incorporated into any type of theme. Get some blow up musical instruments like guitars and saxophones. Use them to form an air band. Play some karaoke songs and have your group perform some songs while one person video tapes the performance. You've now created your own rock video!

Break into groups of two for a mummy making contest. One person will be turned into a mummy by the other person who will use toilet paper to wrap the mummy up. The winner is the team who makes the best mummy.

Movies are an absolute must for a slumber party. Ask each guest to bring a movie that reflects the theme of the party for a late night movie marathon. Be sure to have plenty of popcorn on hand. A pinata can be fun if filled with the right goodies. Besides candy, include some lip gloss, cute erasers, stickers and maybe a couple of gift cards for stores like Gamestop or Blockbuster.

Sleepover Party Ideas

Having some good food is an important part of a sleepover. Pizza is the most popular food. Be sure to have a variety of toppings. Of course, eating isn't just a one time event at a slumber party. Additional snacks are needed.

One idea is to eat the pizza for dinner, say around 6:00 or 7:00 o'clock. Then, around 10:00 o'clock, set up an appetizer buffet. Some appetizers for consideration are:

  • meat and cheese platter
  • deviled eggs
  • chicken wings
  • fruit kabobs
  • miniature meatballs
  • vegetable platter

For dessert, let your friends make their own ice cream sundaes. Have at least three different ice cream flavors to choose from along with syrups such as chocolate, strawberry and caramel. Toppings can consist of M & Ms, gummie worms, crumbled Oreo cookies and sprinkles. Don't forget the whipped cream!

Slumber Party Games

Sleepover games can help reflect the party theme. Any theme can be used to create a trivia game. Get a bunch of trivia questions ready in advance. If wanting to play the game yourself, have a parent create the questions so you can play as well.

Any theme can also have music associated with it so a name that tune type of game can be made. One of the most popular slumber party games is truth or dare. Just be sure to keep it age appropriate. Twister is a fun game at any age. If possible, have prizes for the winners of the games. As it gets later into the night, some guests may start to fall asleep, while others may tire of movies. This is a great time to bring out some board games. More games and activities are listed in the article Slumber Party Activities – Fun Sleepover Games.

Girls Slumber Party Ideas

Be sure to let know guests know what to bring to the party. Some suggested items are a sleeping bag, pillow, pajamas, robe, movie, board game, and flashlight. Flashlights can be great fun at night, especially if telling scary stories.

Keep some one time use cameras around so guests can take candid shots. Afterwards, include some of these pictures in your thank you cards, which can also be incorporated with the theme of your party. Glow sticks can be lots of fun. They can be moved around in the dark to create fun designs or used for late night lighting.

Sleepovers can be so much fun, especially if there are lots of fun games and activities. Although a theme isn't necessary, many girls enjoy incorporating a theme into their party. This can begin with the invitations and end with the thank you cards.

There are some good ideas in this article, like the one about truth or dare, the one about silly string, and the one about board games. I am not having a theme though. When you do it may limit ideas because you want to do only activities that involved the theme. If you want a theme you could do a backwards party (My favorite theme!) This doesn't limit what you can do. The games might need a little adjusting to make it fit (if you want)

P.S When planning a birthday party don't forget that nothing can beat a classic sleepover!

Sleepovers are great and don't cost too much, so if you are saving up for your 16th birthday, this is a perfect idea. If you have sleepovers you will need lots of games planned out. Here are a few (ok, alot!)
1. Play a name game so, everyone can get 2 know eachother. This may sound childish, but is super fun. Your guests form a circle and 1 tween is in the middle. She points to a random girl who immediatly squats. The two guests on her left and right must shout the other person's name before the other girl does. If u fail 2 do this you go in the middle and so on
.
2. Get a chair for everybody but 1. Place the chairs in a circle facing the middle. Everyone sits, but 1 gal. She stands, states her name and says somthing like "U r awesome if u have ever been out of the country" To say this, she must have been out of the country herself. If anyone has been out of the country they get out of thier chair and race 2 a new 1. They tween in the middle does too. Whoever is left without a seat says u r awesome if... and so on
3. For dinner give each guest a menu. The items on there are coded. Like it will say stuff like mini mob machine, and physician's spice. Mini mob machine means fork and Physician's spice means doctor pepper, but ur guests don't know that.!
4. Before your guests arrive get an egg for everyone. Hard boil all but 2. Ask guests to randomly pick an egg. They crack it on thier head hoping it is hard boiled.
5. Have a sillystring war.
6. Tie balloons with string around your friends ankles. On go stomp on them. Whoever has a balloon at the end wins.
7. Divide into teams put shaving cream on 1 team member's head. Go a distance and throw cheetos on thier head. The team with the most cheetos on thier head @ the end wins.
8. Give everyone a toothpick 2 put in between thier teeth. They must pass a lifesaver or a candy with a tooth pick to everyone.
9. Put truth or dare cards inside balloons. Each guest picks a balloon and pops it and picks truth or dare
10. Play hide and go seek @ night
11. Put a cookie on your forehead and by using only facial expressions get it to your mouth
12. Freeze dance
13. Ask guests to bring board games
14. Give everyone an equal # of m and ms Have one girl say "I have never..." If it is true for u eat an m and m. Whoever is the last one with m and ms wins!
15.Have a HUGE bowl of skittles. Each girl draws 2 and eats thim IF they are the same color. If not she keeps them in her mouth until the next round where she draws again and eats all the candy if they match and leaves it in her mouth if it is.
16.Play truth or dare
17. Watch a movie
18. Give eachother make overs, but the person giving the make overe does it BLINDFOLDED!!!

Thank you so much! I love the scavenger hunt idea and the "make ur own sundae" . And lots more! I' m having a "movie theme" . But i think I'll pick the movie and we'll just rent it from blockbusters. I also like the pinata idea and the mummy idea. I live in a town house with no backyard so im probably going to do the activites in the living room. I am so excited for my 12 th birthday party!
