If planning a Disney vacation and not sure which Disney location to travel to, here is information on both parks that are located within the United States.

When deciding on a Disney vacation, there are pros and cons to both the Disneyland Resort located in Anaheim, California and Walt Disney World which makes its home in Lake Buena Vista in Florida, approximately twenty miles from Orlando. Here’s a look at both vacation destinations.

Why go to Disneyland?

There are many advantages to going to Disneyland. First of all, both the original Disneyland, which opened in 1955, and California Adventure are in walking distance of each other. The same holds true for Downtown Disney which features numerous restaurants and shops, along with an AMC movie theater, which shows first run movies.

The three Disney themed hotels are also in walking distance, which includes the original Disneyland Hotel along with the Paradise Pier Hotel and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Another perk is that there are numerous other hotels within walking distance of the parks. The article, Tips For Finding Hotels Near Disneyland, has further information on this.

Looking to save money on food? Just a short walk from Disneyland is McDonalds, along with Denny’s restaurant and the food court at Ramada Maingate. If preferring a buffet, right across the street is Captain Kidd’s.

Why go to Disney World?

While the Disney Resort in California has two themed parks, Disney World has four. These include the Magical Kingdom, which is comparable to Disneyland, along with Epcot, Disney Studios and the Animal Kingdom.

Additionally, there are two water parks. One is Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and the other is Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Both parks feature a variety of attractions. Also in Disney World is Downtown Disney, which like its California counterpart, hosts numerous restaurants and shops.

What is the downside? Unlike the Disney Resort in California, nothing is within walking distance. Transportation is needed to go from location to location. This holds true for the theme parks, hotels and restaurants.

On the other side of the coin, staying at a Disney owned resort can be less expensive, especially when it comes to the All-Star Resorts. These include Disney’s All-Star Movies, Music and Sports Resorts.

Walt Disney Theme Parks

One more consideration is what else is there to do besides visiting a Disney location. Disneyland is close to Knott’s Berry Farm, along with Legoland and Universal Studios in California. Also to be considered is a tour of Hollywood.

Disney World in Florida is also close to Universal Studios in Florida, which houses the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, along with side trips to the Kennedy Space Center and the Florida Everglades.

So which location to visit? That really comes down to a personal preference. While the Disneyland Resort is compact and convenient, the Walt Disney Resort in Florida has more to offer in regards to theme parks, along with all of the rides and attractions.
